Electronics Technician 3rd Class Benjamin Johnson 21 The Spruance-class destroyer USS Peterson Rochester, New York Johnson was part of an eight-man security team that boarded an Iraqi freighter suspected of smuggling oil. He and another sailor drowned when the freighter sank on November 18, 2001, in the northern Persian Gulf.
Engineman 1st Class Vincent Parker 38 The Spruance-class destroyer USS Peterson Preston, Mississippi Parker was part of an eight-man security team that boarded an Iraqi freighter, Motor Vessel Samra, suspected of smuggling oil. He and another sailor drowned when the freighter sank on November 18, 2001, in the northern Persian Gulf.
